Biltwell & ROEG Helmet Visors, Shields & Spares

Biltwell's own words for the trap here: "the new R22.06 Gringo S will not work with the old Gringo S shields because the closure has been improved." A current 22.06 Gringo S or SV takes the shield, pads and liner labelled "22.06". An old 22.05 Gringo S takes a different set entirely. Neither generation fits the other's parts.

Two more parts add a second, unrelated naming trap. The Gen1 Baseplate Kit and the Gen2 Hardware Kit both fit only the old ECE 22.05 Gringo S and Lane Splitter, never a current 22.06 helmet; "Gen" here has nothing to do with the ECE standard the helmet meets. A separately named "Gringo S Gen-2 Shield" fits the same old 22.05 helmet again. None of these three parts fit a current 22.06 Gringo S or SV. The current shields, pads and liner are simply named "22.06."

Cheek pads are the fit tool

Thickness, not size, is what tunes the fit. Biltwell sell seven thicknesses, 10mm to 38mm, for the old 22.05 Gringo and Gringo S, and five, 10mm to 33mm, for the current 22.06 Gringo, Gringo S and Gringo SV. Biltwell's own advice: fit thinner pads if the stock set feels tight, thicker ones if it feels loose, and their instructions say never to modify the helmet itself to change how it sits. The two hardware kits above are also listed for the old 22.05 Lane Splitter, not just the old Gringo S. The Lane Splitter's own Gen-2 shields and its six cheek-pad thicknesses are fitted simply to "Biltwell Lane Splitter," with no generation stated either way, so check the listing or ask before ordering one for a current 22.06 lid.

ROEG's parts carry no split

ROEG's helmets have shipped in one generation only, so none of that applies to ROEG. Cheek pads for the RX1 and Chase come in four thicknesses across both helmets: 21mm, 26mm, 33mm and 40mm. The Jett and Jettson share a plain peak that snaps onto three studs across the brow; the Jett's translucent peak is Jett-specific. The Sonny Peak does the same job on the Peruna. The RX1 and Chase each take their own replacement visor instead; a separate RX1 Anti-Fog Lens is listed for the RX1's pin-lock-ready visor. The ROEG Bubble Shield, sold in four colours, fits both the Jett and the Jettson. The Jett Translucent Peak's own fitment names a second helmet too, the Skull Bucket, a ROEG line that exists on the maker's own site but isn't stocked here. The same peak still fits the Jett either way.

Peaks and accessory shields

Biltwell's Moto Peak and Bubble Shield aren't the visor that carries the standard: their own listings describe them as fitting Biltwell and many other helmets with three snaps on the brow. The Bubble Shield's own listing also names the Bonanza, a Biltwell helmet the helmets page doesn't stock, and a liner for it sits on this shelf too. It still fits a Gringo the same way. The five-snap Gringo Blast Shield is a different fitting again, sold as a UV accessory, with no ECE marking claimed on the item itself.

The law, and what the makers claim

gov.uk's rule for eyewear is separate from the helmet standard but reads the same way. If you ride with a visor or goggles, gov.uk states they must meet one of the following:

• a British Standard and display a BSI Kitemark
• UNECE Regulation 22.05
• UNECE Regulation 22.06
• a European standard offering at least the same safety and protection as the British Standard and carry a mark equivalent to the BSI Kitemark

The shields bundled with the Gringo S, Lane Splitter and ROEG Chase each carry the maker's own claim of a CE-certified anti-fog, anti-scratch coating. Plain replacement shields make no such claim on their own listing.

A Biltwell shop banner also sits on this page, purely because its name contains the word "Shield." It's a printed garage sign, not a helmet part. Spare lenses for the Moto 2.0, Overland and Peruna goggles are filed here rather than on the goggles page itself, since they're a replacement part, not a complete pair.
