About YSS

YSS describes itself as a Thai shock absorber brand with a research and development centre in Europe. This site lists its motorcycle and scooter suspension: rear shocks, front shocks for some scooters and for the BMW R 1150 GS and R 1200 GS, and kits for the front fork.

The range on this site

Page What it covers
Twin Shocks Rear twin shocks, sold as a pair, in Eco Line, Top Line and Black Edition versions
Mono Shocks Single rear shocks, most with preload and rebound adjustment
Scooter Shocks Front shocks, rear shocks and twin shock pairs for scooters
Fork Upgrade Kits Fork Upgrade Kits with a PD Valve, fork springs and fork oil, and an open cartridge kit

Reading a YSS part number

YSS publishes a product code key, and the code in every shock title follows it. The first letter is the type: R for a rear twin shock, M for a rear mono shock, T for a rear twin scooter shock, O for a rear mono scooter shock and V for a front mono shock. The three digits after the first dash are the length of the shock in millimetres. The letters after the length are the adjusters: P or T for step or threaded spring preload, R for rebound, C for compression and L or J for length adjustment. A code ending in B is a Black Edition, which YSS describes as a completely black shock absorber.

What the adjusters do

YSS explains them this way: preload adjusts spring stiffness to suit the load you are carrying, rebound adjusts damping on the return stroke, and compression adjusts damping on the compression stroke. YSS also recommends servicing a shock absorber every 20,000 km.

Will it fit my motorcycle?

Each title names the make and, where there is room, the models the part is listed for. The Fitment section on the listing gives every model and year. Check the year range as well as the model name, and compare the length in the code with the shock on your bike now.

Are YSS shocks sold as a pair or one at a time?

Twin shocks are sold as a pair. Every YSS twin shock says (Pair) in its title, and the price is for both shocks. Rear mono shocks, front scooter shocks and single scooter rear shocks are sold one at a time.
