What's actually on this page

Most of the 200-plus products here are not bags in the way a customer means the word. Harley's own part descriptions use "S-BAG" as shorthand for saddlebag, so a search on "bag" pulls in every guard, latch, docking bracket and liner that fits near one, alongside the actual bags. That's not a tidy range. We're not going to pretend it is. A handful of complete saddlebags sit on this shelf too, and they already have a page of their own: see our Harley-Davidson saddlebags if a whole bag is what you're after. This page is for the hardware that goes with one, the audio built into the lids, and the bag types that don't live anywhere else — tank bags, handlebar bags, windshield bags, swingarm bags, sissy-bar bags and the Onyx and Overwatch soft-luggage range.

Buying the hardware without the bag

Guards, docking brackets and latch parts are matched to the mounting system already on the bike, not to the bag on the box. A dock built for Touring's system won't take a Softail-fitted bag, and a guard rail cut for one saddlebag shape won't sit right on another. Overwatch Quick-Release Saddlebags (90202332) are listed by Harley-Davidson for '18-later Sport Glide, Slim, Street Bob, Low Rider, Low Rider S and ST, Softail Standard and the '26-later FLHD and FXD, and the same listing says all of them except the Sport Glide, Low Rider ST and '25 Low Rider S "require appropriate turn signal relocation kit". The number-plate relocation it mentions is stated for US-market bikes, so ask us what applies to a UK-registered one. Either way it's a real extra job. The lower docking bracket (90201525) and the guard rails (90201903) are both listed separately from any bag they mount to, so check what a listing actually includes before ordering.

The bags that live only here, in Harley-Davidson's own words

The standalone bag types get short listings from us, so here is what Harley-Davidson's own pages say about the ones we checked. Water protection comes in three tiers on their spec fields: the Pan America Adventure soft saddlebags (90202107) and Adventure duffle (93300142) are the ones Harley-Davidson's own listing marks "Waterproof", each rated by them at 10 kg of load; the Onyx and Overwatch soft luggage and the Travel-Paks carry "Water Resistant", a lesser claim; and the older leather and vinyl windshield, fork and swingarm bags carry no water claim at all. Capacities are on the listings too: the swingarm bag (90201567) at 450 cubic inches for Softails without rear axle covers, a left-hand toolbox or saddlebags; the Tour-Pak rack bag (93300124) at 2,600 cubic inches for bikes with a Tour-Pak luggage rack; the Overwatch touring tail bag (93300182) at around 46 litres, which "requires a sissy bar upright and a backrest pad" and a luggage rack if it isn't sitting on the pillion. The Adventure soft saddlebags need a separate side case mounting system, and the Onyx tail bag (93300106) needs bungee bars on an FXDRS. Three bags on this shelf, the tank bag and the Overwatch sissy-bar and handlebar bags, have no Harley-Davidson UK page at all, so for those the title is all we can go on.

What goes wrong without the right support

A saddlebag needs guard rails or support brackets under it, or it rubs against the tyre or the rear shock as the suspension moves. Riders report exactly that wear pattern on throw-over and detachable bags fitted without them. The bag takes the blame. The missing bracket is the actual cause. A sissy-bar bag has the opposite problem. Without something rigid underneath, a tall bag sags down the bar and can start covering the number plate, and at speed the wind gets under it and lifts it if it's only clipped on rather than strapped down too. A tank bag brings its own issue on a cruiser tank: the ignition switch and the speedo sit where a bike with the tank further forward would have clear space, so a bag sized for a different kind of motorcycle can sit over the switch or mark the paint under a magnetic base.
